Karlah Begins Expedition Leader Training

Last weekend, Ms Karlah Coan, Civilian Instructor with 1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron completed her first of 5 weekend training sessions on the Lowland Expedition Leaders course (LEL) at the RAF Air Cadets Adventurous Training Centre.

Located amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Lake District, the course is a specialised training program designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and lead safe expeditions in lowland environments, covering a wide range of topics, including: wilderness navigation, outdoor survival skills, group management, risk assessment, environmental awareness, and leadership development.

The next 4 weekends throughout spring and summer will be focused on consolidating the learning, planning and undertaking practice expeditions with cadets and honing the practical skills needed to lead and undertake safe expeditions.

Karlah is very excited to be able to share her learning with both cadets and staff alike and looks forward to supporting 1324 Squadron with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
