Grace Completes the Youth First Aid Course

Last weekend, Cadet Grace Kenny completed the Youth First Air Course at Driffield Cadet Training Centre!

“It did require some physical effort: doing CPR non-stop for 2 minutes, repeatedly doing the recovery position, rescue breaths, and secondary surveys.

“All in all, it was definitely a fun course and I heard some hard-hitting stories from our instructor, from talking about strokes to amputated limbs.”

To succeed, cadets had to demonstrate they could complete the secondary survey, bandage around impalements, correctly position a casualty using the recovery position, and correctly perform CPR, amongst other things.

“l think a lot of people thought the course was going to be strict and meticulously assessed at the end, with no room for mistakes. But, at the end of the day we all make mistakes and we were shown how to improve [our technique], and the course was very relaxed and we all had a few laughs with our instructors. I would definitely recommend getting into First Aid, even if you don't like blood and gore because these could be the skills you need to save a life!”

Congratulations to Cadet Kenny for putting in so much effort!
