Isaac’s Target Shooting Journey
Back in early 2023, Isaac completed a 2-day rifle course at Driffield Cadet Training Camp, which qualified him to fire the L98A2 rifle. It was at this moment his interest with piqued. He found the staff reassuring and the process of reaching beyond his comfort zone to be challenging, and it duly improved his confidence.
Later, he subsequently travelled to RAF Leeming and experienced his first live shoot, which is when he started to realise he may have found his niche, as his supervisor was impressed by his first-timer’s grouping and ensured he took plenty of photos. That weekend, he was duly awarded his trained shot and marksman badges, having achieved the correct groupings.
On the 2nd of July, he had the opportunity to represent 1324 (Hawker Blackburn) Squadron in a team of 2 at the Central & East Yorkshire Wing’s Competition Day. The squadron came second overall, and Isaac was called forward to receive the award for Best Individual Shot from the station commander of RAF Leeming.
Finally, his first year of shooting culminated with Isaac being selected, as part of a team of 5, to represent Central & East Yorkshire Wing at the North Region Competition Day. This event didn’t result in further accolades, but it’s safe to say Isaac is well-and-truly hooked…
