Cadet Careers Fair 2024
Today, squadron staff represented industry and public-sector organisations at the 2024 Cadet Careers Fair of the Reserve Forces’ & Cadets’ Association (RFCA).
The Cadet Careers Fair is an annual event geared specifically toward cadet forces personnel, and connects young adults with a wide variety of opportunities, from health and social care to engineering.
Officer Commanding 1324 Squadron, Flight Lieutenant Clifford-Roper-Smith was representing the NHS (Humber and North Yorkshire Health & Care Partnership), spreading awareness of opportunities available across the entire sector - public, private, and voluntary. While there, he was also advertising his RAF Reserves role, where he is a flight commander with 611 (West Lancashire) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
“Almost no cadets are aware that, at this crucial stage, they don’t have to choose “civilian” or “military” — they can have the best of both!
“I wanted to make sure that the message was conveyed here, so they understand that a rewarding career in health and social care can run alongside literally any other career available through the reserve forces.”
Squadron Leader Adam Waudby and Mr Richard Gerrard (Wing Aviation Officer and deputy, respectively) were out in force, representing Northern Power Grid and Bristow Group Search & Rescue.
Sergeant George Gohl was also there, representing exciting opportunities with BAE Systems, from apprenticeships to software engineering.
George’s colleague was also a former Air Cadet, prior to moving to the University of Hull for his studies, and we’ve just signed him up as a member of staff!
Make sure you don’t miss next year’s. It’s amazing what opportunities can present themselves at a careers fair…
