Bronze Cyber Course

Cadets compete cyber exercises

On Sunday, 13th October, Cadet Sergeants Isaac Pearson and Max Cuckoo, accompanied by Cadet Bailey Bamforth travelled to 886 (City of Ripon) Squadron to participate in a bronze cyber course.

This course outlined the dangers of social media and safety precautions that can be taken, to ensure online safety. With the completion of this training and a follow-on self-study package, the cadets each earned their bronze cyber badge.

The day started with a brief explanation of the iDEA award, which is the self-study package completed in the cadet’s personal time following the face-to-face session. This award helps develop understanding of many different aspects of the cyber world.

The day continued with research into different cyber attacks which have taken place over history, looking into the impacts and severity of each of these. This was followed by a task where cadets conducted basic research into each other, giving an understanding of the wealth of personal information available online and helping the cadets to understand why they must be careful with what they post.

Finally, the cadets had a basic introduction to the subject matter of the silver and gold courses, including activities such as, coding and white-hat hacking.
